World Lab Animal Day – April 24th, 2010 - was founded by the National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS); it was the birthday of a past President, Air Chief Marshal Lord Dowding, a great champion of animals.

The day is recognised by the United Nations and is now marked by anti-vivisectionists on every continent. It is often marked by a full week of activity known as Lab Animal week or World Week for Laboratory Animals.

Each year during Lab Animal Week, our Street Team proudly don red sashes and take to the streets, holding a can on behalf of laboratory animals everywhere. These activities make a huge difference by raising much needed funds and increasing public awareness about our work.

The March and Rally

This year, as ever, there will be a national march and rally to commemorate and highlight the immense suffering endured by lab animals all over the world – suffering which is not only unethical, but is also unnecessary and unscientific.

The rally will take place on Lab Animal Day, the 24th April, from 11.30am at Cavendish Square, London W1G (nearest tube: Oxford Circus).

NAVS Chief Executive Jan Creamer will be a guest speaker at the rally, and will be addressing some of the most important issues we face today, in getting animal experiments abolished. This much-anticipated event will be the highlight of the year for anti-vivisectionists, and the NAVS will be speaking out on behalf of the silent millions of animals who die every year in cruel, inhumane and unreliable experiments.

The NAVS has produced brand new leaflets for the event, revealing the recent undercover investigation into Britain’s Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) laboratory, one of Europe’s largest commercial animal testing facilities. Please order our leaflets and distribute them on the day – call 020 7630 3340, or click here.

Get Involved!

We’re hoping to make 2010 the most successful World Lab Animal Day yet, and we need your help to do it!

Whether you are a seasoned collector or if you’ve never volunteered before, it would be fantastic if you could get involved for the 2010 World Lab Animal Day, on April 24th. Just a few hours can make all the difference and perhaps you could persuade your spouse, offspring, friends, neighbours and their dogs to join in too.

You could become a Street Collector, run an Awareness Stall, or take parts in other Fundraising Events. The NAVS can help put you in touch with other members of our Street Team, provide you with information and resources on how to get started, and help you organise Events.

If you’re interested in getting involved with World Lab Animal Day 2010, please get in touch – call 020 7630 3340 or email our team, and sign up today!
